A girl stood in the dark, no light to bright the black abyss she was in. Water dripped from some height, rippling across the floor. Another drop followed the first and another after that. Suddenly, another ripple, much larger than the others, washed across the others and washed up against the girl’s bare heels. She opened her eyes, lifting her head up. Another wave splashed against her ankles. Turning around, she caught a glimpse of a figure, but she fell backwards. She closed her eyes, waiting for impact with the wet floor, but it never came. She was falling through air. Just as fast as she started falling, she stopped, her head ramming into the ground.
The girl shot awake, sitting up in the hospital bed. She looked around, looking at the sand brown walls of the strange room. The air smelled like disinfectants and medicine, a smell that made her nose wrinkle. There were voices outside the room, and she leaned sideways to hear them.
“It was an accident, Temari,†a cool, young male voice was saying, “I didn’t have very much control over that.â€
“It’s alright Gaara,†Temari, an older sounding female, replied, “No one’s holding it against you. She’ll be fine.â€
The girl leaned over farther, holding on to the edge for dear life.
Someone else walked up behind her, startling her when her touched her shoulder. She turned around to face him, her hands letting go of the edge in the process. She fell onto her back, hitting her head on the floor, her legs sticking up in the air. The person, male, ran up to her.
“I’m sorry,†he said, “Are you alright?â€
Temari and Gaara walked into the room at that moment, looking at the pair on the floor.
“What happened here?†Temari asked, looking at them.
“Um, nothing!†the other male shouted, waving his hands around.
“God, Kankuro,†she sighed, and then turned to the girl, “Hello. Glad to see you’re alright. I’m Temari. What’s your name?â€
The girl sat up and rubbed the back of her head. “I’m….uh…â€
The truth was, she didn’t know. She had no clue who she was or where she was from.
“I…don’t know who I am,†she replied, “I can’t remember anything.â€
Gaara kept his eyes on her, the blank expression on his face sending a shiver down her spine.
“Well,†Kankuro said, you can stay here for as long as you need. The doctors say you should rest, so I think you better.â€
“If you need anything,†Temari smiled, “Just let one of us know. We’ll be nearby if you need us.â€
“Alright, thank you,†the girl smiled, getting back on the bed. She laid her head back on the pillow and fell asleep instantly.
