The forest was a cold place at night, Bastet was soon to find out. She pulled her jacket tighter around her; it was the only thing warding off the cold night air. It had already infected her bare legs, which shook and shivered with every step she took. She stopped and fell to her knees, thinking of where she could find shelter. Then she stood, having now stopped huddling her own jacket around her to find more warmth that there already was once the jacket was zipped.
The shivering girl turned to a large tree with a determined look. She scowled, and preformed some simple ninjutsu handsigns. She sprinted directly up the tree: a simple trick for aspiring Shinobi’s, so Bastet found she had to learn it. Whilst she ran up the tree, Bastet thought of her attempts to do this when she was little. She was excluded from almost everything, having been possessed by the Youneko, a three-tailed Cat demon who paraded the Village every once and again, seeking and destroying. It had been sealed up inside her, after a horrific pattern of unfortunate events.
Bastet’s foot slipped, but she continued up the tree. She was losing her focus, and had to stop thinking of the past. Her Cat, Mow, ran up the tree by her side and jumped when Bastet did. Bastet jumped far up into the air like a demonic being, casting its shadows over unfortunate animals and people. Birds flew from the branches they once stood perched on, and Bastet landed on a prick that remained upright over the years, that was the very top of the large Oak Tree. Bastet’s Long ponytail waved in the wind, along with the two slits of hair that hung beside her eyes. Her golden-brown eyes closed, and she listened.
Pud. Like a cat’s Bastet’s eyes shot open, having heard a foot kick something somewhat soft. She bolted off of the tree she squatted on and fell onto another, repeating this cycle and going towards the sound.
The first thing Bastet noticed about the area she had almost reached was the odd rock formation. They were in the shape of Heads, probably honored villagers or something of that nature. Her last jump was weak and crooked, probably due to the fact that her legs were practically frozen solid. The upper half of her body fell forward a bit, but Bastet regained her balance. She caught onto a branch and crawled up to it.
Her cat immediately jumped into her lap, providing the cold girl with warmth. Pud. Bastet’s head jerked in the direction of the sound. She was going the right way. Mow sensed the girl’s movement and left out of harms way, whereupon Bastet hurriedly jumped to the village.
Bastet’s arrival was flashy, if not graceful. The bell tied around her wrist jingled, and the boy behind the fence’s head jerked up. Bastet leapt onto the railing of the fence that separated the village and the forest. Time seemed to slow down for the two of them. The boy’s spiky blonde hair slowly moved as his body straightened to see the girl. Bastet’s Foot gracefully landed onto the railing, and her other was slowly following. Her ponytail flowed and flew in front of her face, extending further out than the two silky slits of hair that caressed and fell over the sides of her tanned face. Her hands extended from her side trying to maintain her balance, and her face was soft and cute. Her bright golden eyes cut through the darkness of the tree behind hers shadow. Her lips lightly parted, and her eyes seemed to look nowhere, but if one could trace them, it would head to the ground somewhat far off from where she stood. The most aamazing thing was the fact that she cat ears. but... he likes it. The upper half of her body slightly extended, yet she looked at the boy before her with a happy and comforting smile, and his cheeks turned a faint pink. The elegance she cast like a shadow was a show in itself, but a top from that, she was quite fit. She had a pretty figure and her hair was long and silky. And besides, wouldn’t you blush a little if it happened to you?
This moment of grace and beauty was cut short when a ravenous cry from a cat was heard and Mow crashed into the Girl’s back. She squawked like a chicken and tumbled to the floor, face first. The boy’s blush was quickly thrown away and replaced by an expression of shock and bewilderment. He quickly looked around, frantic and looking for a witness to this girl’s beauty and then her fall. He spotted no one, and so he bent down, cradling the girl’s head in one hand and with the other supporting her back.
“H-Hey!” he muttered, trying to yell but voice cracking with shock. He plastered his bright blue eyes on her face, looking as if the girl was sleeping. A fall like that could not possibly had killed her, and she must’ve been an alien if she had merely fallen asleep; plus, her head had hit the ground pretty hard, so she must’ve been just knocked unconscious from the impact.
The cat that had knocked into her walked up to the girl and put its pay on her shoulder. This cat seemed like a lifelong companion to the girl, acting in a way similar to how Akamaru acted towards Kiba. The boy picked her up and held her bridal style. He looked at her with wonder. Who, or what… was she? He would find out when he woke, and his body language did an excellent job of hiding the wonder that danced in his bright blue eyes.
Then he looked towards the road and started walking towards his home.
Hope she liked the couch.
“Girl.”
Bastet’s eyes opened. She looked at her hands. She wasn’t herself again. This had happened so many times before, but only when Bastet was unconscious. Her body was a mix of shades of cream of red. A worried expression came over her face and she sighed. Then she looked up, to the large demonic Cat that sat, front right paw crossing over the left. It’s entire body and face painted a picture of relaxation. Bastet sighed, and she stood up slightly straighter, giving the Cat her utmost attention. “Yes, Youneko?” she answered like a servant.
In a flash of blind rage and hatred, The Cat Demon had sprung forth and tried his best to wiggle from the chains that bound him and tare the girl apart, limb from fleshy limb. He bared his teeth and every hair on his body stood on end. “I have a name, Girl!” He roared, though his mouth did not move, as it always had not.
“As do I, Devraj.” Answered Bastet, calmly and with a somewhat bored expression. Her hands hung by her sides, and her body language told the Demon that she did not care of the things he growled at her.
Devraj let out a lion like roar, then assumed his relaxed position, still showing his teeth out of anger. He tossed his head away from Bastet like he was too good for her. “I’ll wake you u – “
Bastet opened her eyes wide. The first thing they met were a pair of bright blue ones that burned with innocence and curiosity. The both of them blinked with widened eyes, as Bastet pondered over his lightly pink cheeks.
“Hello.” She said, with her cute voice. She said it very casually, and almost questionably.
The boy jumped up and away from her with a fright. That was quick.
Bastet inched her way up and when she was sitting the least bit straight, she rubbed her eyes, sleepily. “Where am I?”
The boy looked at her questionably. “You’re at my house.” He said, voice shaking a bit. “You got knocked out, so I brought you here.”
Bastet shook her head and tried to regain her usual acute vision. She looked the boy with wonder. “Who are you?” she asked, soaking all of this in.
The Boy gulped, pupils shaking. “Naruto.”
Bastet smiled sincerely. “I’m Bastet!” she threw the blanket that once gave her comfort and warmth off her and leaped in front of the boy excitedly. “Pleased to meet you!” her cat let out a sharp and loud, “Mow!”
Naruto stood frozen, his feet plastered to the ground, unable to move. Finally, he spoke up. “What were you doing?” he tried to yell, but it was the middle of the night and he kept his voice down.
Bastet had wandered over to a t able with various knickknacks on it. She lifted up a box, and when she heard the Blonde’s question, she looked at him plainly and closed it her on her way to confront him. She tilted her head and looked at him. “You’re a ninja.” She said.
Naruto blinked. Wow, this girl is weird! He gulped again. “Yeah… I mean – are you?”
Bastet pondered over this for a second and then smiled widely. “Yeah, I guess.” She kicked the ground and recalled long forgotten memories. “But I never got a headband.” She looked up at Naruto, sensing his next question. “Long story. Don’t ask.”
Naruto felt Bastet’s cat’s paw stroke his leg he looked at it, eyes a bit wide. Mow meowed affectionately. Hesitantly, Naruto slightly bent down and stroked its head.
Bastet looked around. “Are you a Chuunin?”
Naruto blinked. “The Chuunin exam is next month,” he muttered, not at all pleased by this fact.
“Could I participate?”
“Yeah!” Naruto’s hands turned to fists and he held them in front of him, excitedly. “You could be a Chuunin, too!”
“Great!” Bastet chirped, eyes closed with sheer happiness. She looked around the room. “So, Umm… where do I sleep?”
Naruto blinked, excitement leaving him.
Sarutobi rubbed his forehead exhaustedly. “So,” he sighed. “You want to be a ninja?”
“Yes!” Bastet chirped, rather loudly. She smiled and Mow meowed in perfect unison with her answer.
Sarutobi looked at her directly. “What village are you from?”
Bastet blinked, happiness having left her with the question. “I… I’m from the Village hidden in the… flames.” She muttered, uncomfortable.
Sarutobi looked at her, bored. “Did you ever train to become a ninja before?”
“Yes!” Said Bastet. “But I left before I… Graduated…”
The Hokage heaved a sigh. “Alright.” He waved his hand to his assistant beside him. “Stick her in a group.” He said, tired and somewhat agitated. His attention returned to Bastet and he looked at her intensely. She remained cheerful and happy, position vibrating with positive energy and cheerfulness. Then he sighed. “Alright.” He marked a paper that she had filled out and stamped with his personal approval mark. “We’ll let you in.”
“Yay!”
“Mow!”
Bastet burst out of the Hokage’s with a big grin. Naruto had been leaning against the wall, hands in his pockets, tired from last night. He heard Bastet burst into the... outside, and he leapt up. “Are you in?” he yelled.
“Yeah!” squealed the girl. They locked hands and jumped up and down.
And then she walked into the picture.
Her hair was pitch black and she dressed almost gothically. You could see scarcely no bare flesh. She had her hands on her hips and a sucker stuck out of her mouth, which attached to a pale face. With a glove hand she pulled the sucker out and looked at the two, having stopped they’re show of excitement. The girl sighed. “Naruto.” She said, darkly. “Who is this?”
Naruto perked up, happily. “Ah, Lynn-kun – “
“San.” She corrected quickly
“Lynn-San! This is Bastet-chan! She’s going to be a Chuunin and just got accepted into the hidden leaf village!”
“Meow!” came Mow, walking up to Lynn.
She looked at it questionably, and then pat it’s head. “You like Cat’s?”
“I love Cats.” Said, Bastet happily and serenely.
“Cat’s, eh?” came a voice from behind Lynn.
The gothically dressed girl smiled and turned her head to face the boy behind her. “Ah! Kiba-kun!”
The boy had what looked like a mane of ruffled brown hair and his features were sharp and almost doglike. He had a jacket around him, and he smiled at Bastet. “I’m Kiba.” He extended his hand out to the girl. “I’m more of a dog person.”
Bastet’s eyes twinkled and she took the extended hand. “Cool!” she chirped. “I’m Bastet.”
Lynn smiled. She could almost see the arrow’s that pointed to three: To Kiba, Dog. To Bastet, Cat, and To Naruto, Fox, which had in parenthesis Uninvolved.
Naruto grunted. “Kiba, Bastet and I have to go!” Things with Bastet were fun. They were a lot alike, and Bastet was always cheerful. He had never met anyone like that before, but he liked having someone so similar to himself.
“Jealous much?” snorted Lynn. She enjoyed The Fox’s light blush, but then she took Kiba by the hand lovingly and beckoned for him to leave with her. With that, they left.
Bastet zoned out for a minute, waving at the two. Naruto looked at her worryingly. Would Bastet leave him to go talk to Kiba? He had never a felt a deep personality connection like the one he and the Cat shared. He didn’t want it to go away. “Bast-chan!” he yelled.
Bastet’s head slowly turned to Naruto and she whispered. “Naruto-kun… Can I talk with you?”
Naruto’s expression was curiosity mixed with worry. “Uh-huh…” he muttered.
Bastet fell onto the couch and intertwined her fingers together, looking a like a man thinking his troubles over at a bar. Naruto blinked. What was up with Bastet?
“I, uh…” Started Bastet. “I’m not exactly what you would call… normal.” Naruto listened intensely, and Bastet continued. “When I was really little, a big Cat demon – The three tailed Cat Demon; The Youneko, Devraj – Attacked my village.” Bastet touched the cat choker that tightened around her neck. The chocker itself was black, but the Cathead that was strapped to it was a creamy light red. “This is the symbol of my clan - The Tae neko clan. Devraj was sealed into one of them.” She sighed. “But when Devraj’s cat demons attacked for revenge… I…” She looked up at him, eyes glistening a little. “Naruto, technically… I died.”
Naruto widened his eyes and he shook. Bastet was… dead?
She looked back at her hands. “My, um, mother wanted me to live. She strapped this chocker around my neck, hoping it would supply me with life.” She heaved a great sigh. “It did, and when the attack was over, I was alive.” There was a pause but Naruto couldn’t say anything. “Over the weeks, I grew a lot stronger, and I wanted to be a ninja. I wasn’t very good with ninjutsu, so I used taijutsu.” She smiled. “I was really good at it. I was the strongest kid in the class.” Her smiled was gone and she continued with a dark and sulky voice. “But, when people teased me… I got really mad. I – I almost killed them.”
Naruto couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Bastet… Bastet was possessed too? He almost smiled.
“The Cat Demon sometimes takes control of my body… but, I’m getting pretty good at… controlling It.” She looked up at him. “Will you still be my friend?’ her eyes widened when she saw his happy smile.
“Let me tell you my story!”
Bastet cuddled up against the sleeping Mow, having just woken up. Her eyes opened hesitantly. She didn’t want to wake up yet…
She sat up. She guessed she should wake up Naruto now. She grudgingly limped into the boy’s room and shook him until he woke up. Her hair was still silky, but it was lose, and long.
That was what Naruto woke up to. He would have to throw out his alarm clock – he liked waking up to this much better. He straightened up, sleepy but blushing a bit and he had big goofy grin on his face. “Good morning, Bast-chan.”
Bastet smiled. “It’s to time to go meet my new team!”
The shivering girl turned to a large tree with a determined look. She scowled, and preformed some simple ninjutsu handsigns.
